What Is Resonant Realms?

Resonant Realms is a science-fantasy tabletop roleplaying game built upon a single idea: existence is vibration, and vibration can be conducted. Its first campaign cycle, Six Fold Symphony, carries players beyond a single kingdom or continent and into an interlinked planetary system orbiting twin suns. Characters travel through Brane portals between Grondak’s geologically volatile mountains and sacred rings; Gearholme’s deep oceans, archipelagos, floating landmasses, and traveling cities; the universities, archives, and courts of Theravos; KarraDun’s immense forests and gemstone-bearing mountains; and Tal’Renne’s crystalline surface, where resonance becomes visible. Each world has its own peoples, histories, dangers, and understanding of the forces holding reality together.

These planets are not interchangeable settings placed beneath different skies. Each is a living world with its own biomes, cultures, political struggles, technologies, and consequences. Moving between them changes what characters know, what they can survive, and whom they can trust. Yet every world is bound by the same underlying resonance: one Source, one Song, expressed through civilizations that have learned to hear it in profoundly different ways. The coming Kickstarter will help bring that system to the table through the physical books, manuals, artwork, and playable material needed to explore the Resonant Realms in full.

The Road to the Table

The Plan for Six Fold Symphony

Six Fold Symphony is being developed as the first complete expression of Resonant Realms: a playable science-fantasy tabletop roleplaying game, a coherent system of worlds, and a campaign foundation built to grow through future stories. The work ahead is focused on turning the established setting and systems into material that can be confidently played, tested, illustrated, and produced.

  1. Complete and refine the core rules, including Chords, Conducting, Resonance states, character options, equipment, and world interaction.
  2. Bring the realms, cultures, creatures, histories, and campaign material into a consistent and playable form.
  3. Invite players and game masters into structured playtesting, listen to their feedback, and improve clarity, balance, pacing, and accessibility.
  4. Prepare a tiered Kickstarter campaign with clearly explained funding goals for professional illustration, editing, layout, production, and the physical and digital materials needed for release.
  5. Use the completed foundation to support continuing adventures and future expansions across the Resonant Realms.
Campaign Framework

Built for Modules, Campaigns, and West Marches

Six Fold Symphony is being designed for modular play at every scale: self-contained adventures, short arcs, long-running campaigns, and open-table West Marches games. Groups can play a single scenario, link modules into a larger composition, or build an enduring campaign that changes as players move through it.

World creation supports that flexibility with full guidance and simple dice-based procedures for generating worlds, regions, settlements, conflicts, discoveries, and playable scenarios. Game masters can use detailed tools when they want depth or quick rolls when the table needs an answer now.

Future Development

From Table to Online World

Future web tools are planned to let groups upload gameplay outcomes, discoveries, and changes to the world. Every player in a group will be able to receive current information and results, whether they were at the table or are following the campaign between sessions.

The long-term vision connects table play to a living online world. What happens in one group can change the shared state that other groups encounter, allowing them to respond, realign the world, replay a scenario under changed conditions, or carry its consequences forward. Over time, play creates a fan-driven world shaped by the players themselves.

The System at the Table

How the Game Plays

Resonant Realms is a D20-based game designed to remain familiar to players who understand the 5e style of play. You will recognize the importance of the D20, character abilities, tactical movement, equipment, and clearly defined actions. That familiarity provides an accessible point of entry, but Resonant Realms is not another setting placed over a familiar structure. It uses familiar foundations to support a different system, a different cosmology, and a world that responds to play in a fundamentally different way.

At the center of the system are Chords: combinations of familiar polyhedral dice rolled together, with each die answering a different part of the same action. In a weapon attack, for example, the D20 determines whether the attack succeeds, the D8 measures its physical effect, and the D4 reads the resonance consequence created by that action. The dice are not simply added into one large number. Each is read separately, allowing one roll to resolve several parts of an action while removing as much calculation, repeated rolling, and table-side arithmetic as possible. The structure behind the game may be detailed, but using it is meant to remain direct.

Conducting, the magical practice of Resonant Realms, is built from music theory, frequency, rhythm, harmonic relationship, and the deliberate movement of Resonance through a physical Interface. A Conductor does not simply memorize a spell and release it. They use an instrument, crystal, engineered device, focus, or another valid tool to reach into the resonance field and shape what is already there. Conducts use their own Chord, allowing the game to determine whether the attempt succeeds, how it interacts with the surrounding frequency, and what effect that interaction leaves behind.

Color theory and gemstone science form another layer of the system. Color is not cosmetic: it represents wavelength, frequency, and the attributes a gemstone can support. Its mineral family, rarity, cut, craftsmanship, and placement within conductive cagework determine how it can augment a weapon or other piece of equipment. This allows players to develop weapons through meaningful choices rather than simply replacing one numerical bonus with a larger one. An augmented weapon becomes a constructed relationship between its wielder, its materials, its artisan, and the Resonance it was designed to carry.

Most importantly, Resonant Realms has no moral alignment system. Harmony, Dissonance, and Neutrality are physical states within the resonance field, not substitutes for Good, Evil, or a divine judgment of character. The game does not tell you whether a choice was morally correct. It measures what that choice introduced into the world. Every meaningful action can disturb or stabilize the field in different ways, and those changes can remain after the immediate scene has ended. You decide what your character does. The world remembers what you changed.
